It can be confusing to know what can and can't be recycled, this guidance from Wiltshire Council can help.
Levels of contamination of recycling have been increasing which impacts on the costs of recycling and the percentage that can be recycled - in 2021 this was just 42%.
To help reduce contamination the top tips are;
Put recyclables loose into the blue-lidded bin.
Don’t put carrier bags or bin liners of materials into the blue lidded-bin (some supermarkets collect flexible or “soft” plastics for recycling).
Some material unsuitable for the blue-lidded bin can be taken to household recycling centres instead.
In Wiltshire, most waste collected in the general waste bins does not go to landfill, but goes to treatment facilities to produce energy.
